Location: Near Florence Junction
Trail Rating: 4.5+

Description:
Lower Woodpecker is really more a "play" area then a "trail". It is very short in length but BIG on rocks. There are five or so different "paths" to take through this outcropping of rocks, some bigger than others, some more off camber than others. Sometimes there's water, sometimes not. It's different each time you traverse it but it definitely doesn't get easier.
There are full rock walls covered with pictographs. How wonderful it would be to know the story behind all of them.

Remember to Tread lightly!

How to Get There:

From Florence proceed North on AZ Hwy 79. After 11 miles (near milepost 144 at a flagpole), turn East on Cottonwood Canyon Road. (Note: Cottonwood Canyon Road crosses a military reservation and may not be accessible during days when live fire exercises are in progress. Also note that a permit to access State Trust Land is needed for this area.)
Proceed East on Cottonwood Canyon Road, turn right (after 5 ?? miles) when you intersect Mineral Mountain Road. Upper Woodpecker Canyon trail is on the left side in 0.3 miles.
