Location: Crown King
Trail Rating: 4.0
Description:

The only real reason to run this trail is to enjoy the first 600 or so yards of it while dropping down off the top of the hill. Because the trail dead ends, you have to climb up this same section, which is the major challenge. Big rocks, mud, holes, etc. are not what causes the high trail rating. The steepest section of the trail is also the most heavily rutted from the monsoon rains.
Once past the steep section of the trail, you will find VERY heavy brush along the trail. If you don't like Arizona pin-striping, do NOT go any further down the trail. this trail is not much except for the repeat section you must descend and then climb. My advice is to walk it first before you commit your vehicle.

Remember to Tread lightly!

How to Get There:

Proceed north from Phoenix, AZ on I-17. Take the BumbleBee turnoff, exit 248 (about 30 miles north of Phoenix). Proceed to Crown King, which is about 28 miles down the road. Upon arriving at Crown King, proceed on to the Senator Highway, designated as FR52. Turn south on FR52 towards the Horse Thief Basin recreation area. The Tip Top Trail intersects FR52 and is marked by a USFS sign, about 6 road miles down FR52 from Crown King. Turn right onto the trail. The GPS coordinates mark the start of the trail where it begins its downhill drop to the valley below. This is about 200 yards off of FR52 itself.
