Location: Location: East of Mesa
Trail Rating: 3.0

Description:
The trail climbs from 2100 feet at its westerly point to over 5400 feet at Montana MountainOne of the few open trails in the Superstition range, this is a great day ride that will offer only moderate off-road challenges, but an unforgettable off-road experience. The "Superstitions Loop Trail" as we will refer to this adventure, follows Forest Road 357/172/172A and Forest Road 650 in the Tonto National Forest. The trail length is approximately 25 miles. The estimated travel time is 4 hours. FR357 (Hewlitt Station Road) starts approximately 2 miles north from the Queen Valley Road exit off US 60, approximately two miles east of Florence Junction (the intersection of US 60 and US 89). After approximately 3 miles you will come to the FR 172 (JF Road), which you will follow for approximately 8 miles to the turnoff to Woodbury Trailhead (Woodbury Cabin and JF Ranch) and Roger's Trough. There are a few minor washes to cross and barring any violent storms, the trail is easily passable, and a fairy gentle assent from 2150 feet to 3200 feet, with a bit steeper grade over the last two miles. The Roger's Trough Trail, FR172A, immediately starts will a good hill climb of nearly 1800 feet over the next mile and a half. The road has some rough spots and some ruts, and is considered a serious 4-wheel drive trail at this point, especially if wet or whether conditions have caused washouts or severe rutting by vehicles attempting the climb/decent. Where FR172A and FR650 meet is the turnoff to Roger's Trough/Springs. Continue to right, following FR650 over Montana Mountain and through through Wood Camp and Happy Camp. This segment of the trail can be difficult, with wash outs on corners of the steep switchbacks approaching and departing Montana Mountain, dropping in elevation of 2000 feet over just a little under two miles.

Remember to Tread lightly!
