Description:
El Oso trail is the old ridge trail that runs north along the ridge line from Four Peaks. It goes to the El Oso mine and another mine. It's been replaced by a main trail that runs to the west of El Oso. The E.O. trail parallels this newer (easier) trail along the eastern slope of the ridge line, and rejoins this trail...which will take you to Edwards Park (nice Camp area). Generally a class 3 trail that doesn't get used all that much any more....but it's a great trail to do. You'll be treated to beautiful views set in mixed pines and oak forests.

Remember to Tread lightly!

How to Get There:
Take SR87 to Four Peaks Rd. Take 4P to the ridge, and head north. Near the telecommunications facility, the trail will split...take the left trail. This is the new ridge line trail. After a bit, you'll come to the El Oso trail...which will be off to the right from the main trail. Take this and in a short distance, you'll come to a Y. The right will take you to Big Pine Flat and is a dead end (but a nice side trip). The left fork is the El Oso trail. You'll come across a small step (down) here. After a while, you'll come to the mine site...which makes a good spot for lunch and poking around. Continuing on will take you to a second mine (down a hill)...but the exit will be on your left...up the hill. The trail rejoins the new main trail. Here you can go either to the right...to Little Pine Flat and on to Edwards Park, or go left to exit back to Four Peaks.
