Location: Near Florence Junction
Trail Rating: 3.5

Description:
The Coke Ovens are one of the most fascinating ruins in Arizona. These five beehive shaped ovens were constructed sometime in the late 1800's in the middle of the Arizona desert, near the north bank of the Gila River, approximately 20 miles northeast of Florence. This is a great 4X4 adventure for the experienced driver or novice.
The trail to the Coke Ovens can be challenging for the experienced or novice driver. This trail is generally rated as a 3.5 (Moderate-Difficult). Your vehicle should be in sound operating condition. I generally recommend that only vehicles with adequate clearance attempt this trail. However, stock vehicles have and do use the trail. There are large rock obstacles, ledges and holes that need to be navigated.

Remember to Tread lightly!

How to Get There:
Go north from Florence on US 89 (or South from US 60, at Florence Junction); Turn east just north of the bridge onto Price Road. Follow Box Canyon Road, Turn right. Follow Road past two Windmills, Stay to right and follow road to the Coke Ovens (Note: Turn left, Northeast, to Martinez Canyon) There are two major trails that go into the Coke Ovens: After navigating over a nice rock trail, you will drop into a wash. I normally take the road to the left, and follow the road (staying to the right) to an overlook east of the Ovens. The trail to the right is a little rougher, but is a great trail to follow either going in or coming back out.
